How to be a resilience “rock star”

What is Resilience?

Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, or significant source. Resilience involves personal growth. Being resilient doesn’t mean there won’t be hardships or challenges in your life.

Resilience involves behaviors, thoughts and actions that anyone can learn and develop. The ability to learn resilience like building a muscle, increasing your resilience takes time to develop. It means choosing courage in the midst of chaos. It means not allowing discouragement to overtake you, but allowing yourself to see ne possibilities, choosing a pathway or creating a plan and putting that into action.

You can become a resilience rock star by using these helpful strategies and be more empowered when difficult challenges or life events happen to you. Focus on the following-

Relationships- Connecting with others can remind you that you’re not alone in the midst of difficulties.

Reduce Stress- your physical and emotional wellness are impacted by stress.

Renewal– Journaling, yoga, and other mindful/spiritual practices like prayer or meditation. When you journal, meditate, or pray, restore hope by focusing on positive aspects of your life and recall the things you’re grateful for, even during trials.

Reach Out- Volunteer in your community, or simply support a friend in their own time of need.

Refocus- Ask yourself, “What can I do about a problem in my life?” If the problems seem too big to tackle, break them down into smaller more manageable tasks.

Recommit- Move toward your goals. Create realistic goals and do something regularly even if it seems like a small accomplishment — that enables you to achieve the things you want to accomplish. Do one thing daily or create one habit that helps you move in the direction you want.

Review- Learn from your past. Look back at what was most helpful to you in prior times of difficulty. Ask yourself of where you have found strength and knowledge from those previous experiences.

Realign- Keep things in perspective. How you think is critical to how you feel and how resilient you are when faced with obstacles. if you feel overwhelmed by a challenge, you may not be able to change a highly stressful event, but you can change how you interpret and respond to it. Focus on circumstances that you can change instead of the ones you cannot. Be willing to adapt or modify your “game plan” to fit your need and capabilities.

Remind-. Make a continual mental note to yourself to be positive. An optimistic outlook empowers you. Although it may be hard remember the universe, God, great spirit, or higher power is in control and expect that good things will happen to you. Try visualizing what you want, rather than worrying about what you fear.

Resources- External resources: Use the support of loved ones, friends, and trusted professionals for support. Internal resources: Often we may feel like we have none or very little internal resources. Along life’s journey we have to dig deep into our “backpacks” we will find these resources of faith, hope, determination, and courage. Take time to reflect on the qualities others compliment you on or what attributes you have that served you during a past challenging situation and you may discover strengths you did not realize you have.

Becoming more resilient not only helps you get through difficult times; it also empowers you to grow and even improve your life along the way.
