In 2015, I was dying.
Born with a rare disease that prevented me from digesting food, I relied on 12-hour daily IV nutrition (TPN), which ultimately destroyed my liver. I faced the unimaginable: waiting for a multi-visceral transplant involving five organs — pancreas, stomach, liver, small intestine, and colon. Against all odds, I received it.
Then in 2024, my kidneys failed. Due to my blood type, I was told to expect a 5–10 year wait. Dialysis nearly killed me. A medical error led to sepsis, blood clots, and a complete loss of vascular access. Peritoneal l dialysis had not been an option because it would damage my organs I had received from my multi-visceral transplant. I was taken off dialysis completely and left without any options. This intensified the fight for my life because I was rapidly running out of time! But I didn’t give up. Using everything I’d learned from navigating the transplant system before, I created plan, that included “key” strategic actions daily. In just 10 months, I went from being unlisted and denied by multiple centers to receiving a successful kidney transplant.
I turned my pain into purpose. Now, I help others do the same.
